05 June 2016 - WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

This year’s theme for WED – Go Wild for Life – encourages you to celebrate all those species under threat and take action of your own to help safeguard them for future generations. This can be about animals or plants that are threatened within your local area as well as at the national or global level - many local extinctions will eventually add up to a global extinction! Whoever you are, and wherever you live, show zero-tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife in word and deed, and make a difference.

WED at SACON

On 05th June 2016, the ENVIS Centre of SACON has scheduled an event of releasing a poster carrying the message “Whoever you are, and wherever you live, show zero-tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife”. This poster creates awareness among the people about the illegal trade in some wetland species. Around 150 participants from Salim Ali Naturalist Forum (SANF) actively participated in the event. The participants were taken to nature trials in the SACON campus followed by the poster release. We have also distributed the poster to the nearby schools; NGO’s and research institutions for display.

In connection with World Environment Day 2016, the SACON ENVIS team also initiated Swachh Bharat Phakwada at Angappa Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore on 06th June 2016. The students took the cleanliness pledge and participated in the rally. Along with this, the students also exhibited their paintings and slogans regarding Environment Conservation. The ENVIS team also distributed the ENVIS publications to the students.
