RAMSAR INDIA 2013@Alapuzha

The "National Ramsar Sites Stakeholders Meet and Wetland Conservation Seminar" organised by ATREE (Asoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) during 3rd to 5th March 2013 was held at Town Square, Alappuzha, KERALA. The meeting aimed to bring together all stakeholders, policy makers, researchers and civil society organizations from all the Ramsar sites in India, share their experiences about the conservation and efforts taken. The Conservation seminar involving researchers was also organized several aspects and challenges related to the wetlands were discussed. The interaction meet among the stakeholders, their photos, exhibitions of their local products and traditions was highly appreciated the visitors. In the meet was also had a two panel discussion on "The Potential Ramsar Sites in India" and "Wetland Polices and Governance in India" where held that discussed the current issues such as: lack of conservation implementation in the Ramsar sites, increase the participation/involvement of Stakeholders, wetland regulatory acts and polices etc. During the meet the SACON ENVIS team also interacted with the stakeholders and researchers from the Ramsar sites across the country. The team also shared information about the ENVIS activities related to the wetlands ecosystems.
