The world Migratory bird day is observed globally during the second Saturday and Sunday in the month of May. This year the theme for the Day was 'Networking for the birds'. Based on the theme the World Migratory Bird Day was observed by Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) on 11^th May, 2013. The event was jointly organized by SACON and Environment Conservation Group (ECG), Coimbatore at the SACON premises near Anaikatti hills from 7.30 am till 1.00 pm.

Around 45 participants of varying age groups from across the Coimbatore City attended the program. The participants were taken on a Birding trail in the campus lead by Dr. Rajah Jayapal, Principal Scientist, Ornithology division and Mr. Rajan P. Ph.D. Research Scholar, Nature Education division, SACON. This was followed by film screenings on (i) Bird Migration, (ii) Indian Ornithology passage through time and (iii) Birds of Bhopal. This was in addition to the interactive talks by Mr. Salim of ECG who spoke on the 'Importance of observing the Day'; 'Migratory birds of Coimbatore' by Dr. Rajah Jayapal and 'Importance of Wetlands to Birds' by Dr. Goldin Quadros, Senior Scientist Wetland Ecology Division and ENVIS Coiordinator SACON. An exhibition of the photographs of birds taken by students was also put up at the venue. By the end of the program the participants were requested to network and collectively engage not only for the bird conservation but also the habitats that the birds depend upon.
