Talk on "The Importance of Conserving Urban Lakes"
The Nature Education Department of SACON organised a Talk
on "Ecosystem Based
approach to Lake Conservation" at SACON Campus on 19th July 2013. Prof. U.N. Ravikumar, Former Director, Centre
for Appropriate Rural Technologies, The National Institute of Engineering,
Mysore who is working on Restoration of Urban Wetlands of Mysore for more than 2
years delivered the talk. A Presentation covered information of many urban lakes of
Mysore including Kukkarahalli, Bommanahalli, Lingambudhi. During the
deliberation he emphasised on how the lakes are polluted and encroached upon by
the people and industries and why the activities were not controlled even if the
funds are provided. He also spoke on the importance of creating artificial lakes
i.e. Ecoponds in Industry
and its economics.
Staff members and Research Scholars of SACON attended the
talk. Dr.Pramod, Senior Scientist of Nature Education Department thanked
Prof.U.N. Ravikumar for sharing his knowledge and experience on restoring urban
wetlands and their importance.
